An ancient sealed structure is opened, and he goes down with the team that opens it. Below, there are people. They have lived without daylight for so long that the light itself will kill them. There is no wall holding them there. The sun is the lock.
What Rovan can build would let them walk out. It would also make his own kingdom the door they have to ask permission at.
