At the end of the year, the most voted films, short films, music videos, and videos in our annual categories go on to win the Open Film Zone Awards.

Monthly Competitions

How It Works:

Creators may submit up to 10 videos per month.
Viewers vote once per category, per month.
At the end of the month, the top-voted video in each category becomes the Monthly Winner.
The Top 3 finalists in each category receive visibility boosts and badges.

Creating a free account allows you to vote.
Voting is limited to one vote per category, per user, per month.

Who is eligible in the DIY category?

Any video/film is eligible to participate in the DIY filmmaking competition by aligning to one (1) of these conditions:

• under 10 people crew

• under $10K budget

• no production company

• director under 18 years of age

Make sure you mark the DIY box on uploading the video.

We reserve the right to remove any film/video from the DIY competitions if the work fails to meet the criteria.

7. How does the voting system work?

Voting is open all the time.

Everyone can vote in multiple genre-based yearly categories and monthly themed competitions.

Each film/video can be entered into 1 monthly category and 1 yearly category.

Winners receive front-page exposure and recognition from our community.

Anyone with a free account can vote once per category.

The monthly themed competitions vary each month.

8. Is there a cost to use OFZ?

Watching is free for all visitors.

Voting and commenting is free and done by signing in to one’s OFZ account.

Uploading, entering competitions, and networking requires a FREE monthly subscription.

You can cancel anytime—uploaded videos remain live even if you end your subscription. You can also delete your videos at any time if you so wish.

No. You retain full ownership and rights to your work. OFZ does not claim any creative or legal control over your content.

13. How long will my video stay on the platform?

Once uploaded, your video remains hosted on OFZ indefinitely—even if you cancel your subscription. You can delete it at any time if you choose.

14. Why not send to other festivals?

Over 99% of films submitted to festivals are never selected. A typical festival might receive 4,500 submissions and only screen 45 – 1% of all submitted films. This means thousands of projects full of vision, talent, and potential—go unseen, buried by closed networks.
