Open Film Zone is a fully open and democratic filmmaking platform, where any film/video is accepted onto the website and competitions – online – with a global and far-reaching audience where everyone and anyone can vote on which movies/videos are the best in their corresponding categories.

Each month, OFZ hosts open competitions across multiple categories. Once you’re logged in with a free account, you can vote once per category for the video you believe deserves to win. Subscribers and creators can also participate as voters. Votes determine which projects and creators receive winner certificates and front-page exposure on our website.

The most voted videos on our annual categories are recognized with the Open Film Zone Awards at the end of each year.

OFZ’s Yearly Calendar: A New Kind of Journey 

Each month at Open Film Zone is more than a contest—it’s a thematic exploration. We move through a cinematic evolution—from descent into mystery, to spiritual and emotional catharsis, to renewal and reflection. Our categories challenge creators to align with artistic, emotional, or philosophical touchstones that viewers can anticipate and engage with. Throughout the year, we cover all the areas of creative content. From individual scenes to music and writing and so much more.

Just like storytelling, our year is a journey. One you’re invited to co-create.

DIY Visionary Award

Every month the DIY filmmakers and creators who can make the most voted film/video with the smallest team and least production cost is recognized and highlighted on our front page.

At the end of each year, the most voted DIY film or video is recognized with the DIY Visionary Award.

Anyone can become a filmmaker. Here at Open Film Zone.

Who is eligible in the DIY category?

Any video/film is eligible to participate in the DIY filmmaking competition by aligning to one (1) of these conditions: 

• under 10 people crew 

•  under $10K budget 

•  no production company 

•  director under 18 years of age 

Make sure you mark the DIY box on uploading the video.
