The Mother Tongue
Brief Synopsis
The Mother Tongue is a sexy, playful and irreverent meditation on women, language and British identity. Women flirt, pose, tease and misbehave as sexuality slips into comedy, beauty into absurdity, and familiar places and identities refuse to stay neatly fixed. The filmmaker herself joins the game, both observer and participant. Britain may provide the geography and the Union Jack its emblem, but while symbols deteriorate, bodies, language, humour and desire remain gloriously in flux.
