The Last Host

The Last Hostis an independent Tunisian feature film created in Téboursouk, in northwestern Tunisia, through a completely grassroots filmmaking process.

The film was made with no production budget, using available resources and a small team that was personally formed and trained throughout the filmmaking process. Rather than relying on an established professional crew, the project brought together young people from the local community and gave them the opportunity to learn and develop practical skills in filmmaking, including directing, cinematography, sound, acting, production, and editing.

Set against the haunting landscapes and ruins of Téboursouk, The Last Host explores isolation, memory, survival, and the human relationship with forgotten places. The environment becomes an essential part of the film’s visual and emotional identity.

Beyond the film itself, The Last Host represents an experiment in independent cinema: proving that a feature film can emerge from a small community, with almost no financial resources, when creativity, determination, and collective learning replace conventional production means.

The result is a deeply personal work that reflects both the reality of its creators and the spirit of a new generation of Tunisian independent filmmakers.

Amazing how you pulled this off with a small crew. Great initiative and work by all. Good use of the settings available, the environments are a standout :)
