Earl, an elderly widower, has stopped cooking since his wife Etta Mae died the farmhouse kitchen where she fed everyone for fifty years has gone grey and silent, and even the farm cat waits hungry by an empty bowl. Then the cat paws open a drawer, and Earl finds her handwritten recipe for yeast bread, ending in her own words: “Patience. It will rise when it is ready.” Step by step, he follows it. As his hands learn her work the flour, the kneading, the waiting warmth returns to the house, and with it, her: for one fleeting moment, her hands settle over his in the dough, guiding him the way she always did. She cannot stay. But what she taught his hands can. Told in a fusion of two animation languages stop-motion clay for the grieving present, luminous watercolor for memory PATIENCE is a short film about how love outlives loss: not as a ghost, but as warmth, passed from her hands to his, and from his to every creature still waiting to be fed.
