The music video “Ataktoulis sto Dubai” is a caustic, surreal satire that brings two completely different worlds together. At the center of the story is “Naughty Guy”, who leaves behind his Greek everyday life to chase the ultimate consumer dream, luxury & extravagance among the skyscrapers & the Gold of Dubai.
​The glamour of the foreign world, however, is abruptly interrupted by the grounded Greek reality. Through a parallel montage, we are transported to a Greek cafe. There, two emblematic figures of the elderly, the grandfathers Manolis & Dimitris, watch the “naughties” of our protagonist.
Armed with sharp humor, self-deprecating wit and the wisdom of their times, the two grandfathers become the voice of today’s Greece. They comment on the economic crisis, punctuality, unbearable rents and the wave of youth flight abroad, deconstructing the illusion of easy enrichment.
“The Naughty Man in Dubai” is not just an entertaining video clip, but a social statement. Through the intense visual contrast of the Emirati desert and the simple Greek cafe, the work highlights that, despite the difficulties and uncertainty, the country’s true rich heritage lies in the authenticity, the philotimo
and the ability of its people to stand up again.
