Ali Karim, a renowned artist from Sulaymaniyah, has spent a lifetime creating art in the basement of his home. Now, illness and physical weakness have left him unable to descend the ten stairs separating him from his paintings. As his work remains in darkness and dust, Ali reflects on art, aging, loneliness, mortality and the value society places on artists. 10 Stairs Away from the Colors is a portrait of an artist caught between a lifetime of creation and the fear of becoming forgotten.
