Kais Mahmood is a Dhaka based filmmaker and poet whose work inhabits the intersection of classic literature and visceral, avant garde, and neo noir cinema. He is known for a sophisticated command of high contrast visuals and monochromatic aesthetics, a style that explores existential mystery and gothic atmospheric tension by bridging regional linguistics with universal storytelling.
His cinematic journey began with the student film \”Lady Lazarus.\” Based on the iconic poem by Sylvia Plath, the project serves as a definitive example of his ability to blend complex literature with the visual language of film. Despite being his directorial debut, it garnered significant national and international recognition at various festivals worldwide.
Mahmood’s creative voice is deeply rooted in his study of world literature, with a particular focus on the haunting aesthetics of dark romantic literature and the stylistic sensibilities of French New Wave cinema. Beyond the screen, he is an accomplished author with an academic background in English Literature. He has published two books, \”Tumi gaan hou, shuni\” and \”25 poems,\” which reflect his dedication to poetic structure and narrative depth.
With a growing production slate currently in development, Mahmood continues to challenge the boundaries of independent cinema. His work remains a dedicated exploration of the human condition, driven by a creative vision that continues to evolve with every new project.
