Wilderness

Short statement:
The film aims to contrast the simplicity and beauty of life in nature (the forest) with the corrupt city of steel and its vile inhabitants.

Plot in short:
A man living in the forest in perfect harmony with nature and the universe befriends a creature that materializes while he is tripping on magic mushrooms.
The creature saves his life when he is pinned down by a fallen tree.
One day, a letter arrives from the city, and the man must go there. The clash with the concrete, steel, and city dwellers proves tragic; the creature is killed in traffic, terrified by the cacophony of urban noise.
The man returns to the forest to bury it.

Film descritpion:
1. Life in the forest
A segment of the film showing daily life in the forest: walks among the trees, bathing in a stream, chopping wood, an evening campfire, etc.

2. The mushroom trip
After finding magic mushrooms, the protagonist experiences an all-night trip. It begins with a soft glow around the trees, followed by the first shapes of animals and various creatures appearing in the treetops, then constellations connecting in the clear, moonlit sky, and finally, one of the hallucinations descends from a treetop and physically materializes. At first, the protagonist panics and tries to flee. He falls into a hollow and is pinned by a tree. He is trapped and unable to free himself.

3. Before leaving
In the morning, the creature is still there; the protagonist, still lying beneath the tree, watches it in amazement. Despite its tiny size, the creature displays immense strength, effortlessly pushing the tree aside and helping the protagonist get free. They struggle to reach the cabin, where the protagonist tends to his wound and falls asleep.
In the morning, he receives a letter and gazes at it for a long time.

4. The Journey to the City
The protagonist travels to the city — first by taxi to the station, then by train, and finally by bus. He carries the creature with him in his backpack.
Just as he gets into the taxi, a woman heading in the same direction joins him at the last moment. She tries to strike up a conversation, but he does not reply; instead, he simply shows her the letter.
They continue the journey in silence.
They also sit next to each other on the train. Eventually, the woman offers to help, saying she will arrange accommodation for him in the city and show him the local sights.
The protagonist agrees with a nod.

5. The City
A woman leads the protagonist to an apartment, arranges to meet him later that evening, and leaves. The protagonist shaves, puts on a jacket and tie, tucks the sleeping creature into bed, and goes out onto the street.
– the noise and bustle are overwhelming: the chaotic conversations, the roar of cars and trams, the general commotion and haste.
– surrounded by concrete-and-steel skyscrapers and office buildings.
The protagonist returns to the room. The creature is awake and wants to go for a walk. They go out together. During the walk, a sudden loud noise startles the creature; it instinctively jumps away and runs into the street, where it is struck and killed by a bus.
The protagonist carries it back to the room and lays its remains on the bed.
Petrified he watches a World Cup match on TV; nearby, a withered ornamental tree stands in a pot.

In the evening, the woman arrives, and they go out into the city together.
– CSW – decadent art rooted in *turpism*.
– an encounter with a madman who has been wandering the city for 28 years searching for his father.
– a priest and a nun emerge from a church; as soon as they turn the corner, they drop their pious demeanor and begin kissing.
– the woman takes him to a meeting of a film group at a venue where local artists are performing a highly dissonant piece.
– they leave and come across a basketball player with his arm in a sling on a weed-choked court; he is holding a ball in his other hand.
– in a gateway, two thugs are roughing up a tourist who is kneeling on the ground. They take his jacket and cap.
– The weary protagonist has had enough; he wanders into a Media Markt, where, in the TV section, presenters from around the world appear one by one on the screens, reading news in various languages. The broadcasts discuss the need to cut down forests and terraform Earth into a landscape of steel and concrete.
– On his way back to his room, the protagonist sees alcoholics leaving an AA meeting; one of them turns a corner and downs a small bottle of vodka in one gulp.
– He returns to his room and lies down beside the dead creature.

6. Return to the forest
On the bus ride back, the driver has a small TV set playing the same news report from Media Markt, this time in Polish.
The protagonist returns to the forest with the creature’s remains in his backpack and buries it at the spot where they first met.
After he buries it, a beautiful tree with lush foliage sprouts from the ground.
The protagonist embraces the tree and sits in its shade.
Very slowly, he merges with it. His facial features transform into the pattern of the bark.

The End.
