Polish golden youth

Another old film of mine from 2002.
Here we witness the clash of three worlds existing next to one another: poets talking about poetry, chavs talking about money and fun, and a metalhead not talking at all.
When they all meet face to face, who’s gonna be the last one standing?

I got an inspiration to make it from a punk rock song called “Dyskoman” by a band called Po Prostu. The title was probably inspired by “Beat on the brat” by the Ramones.
So much for inspirations.

Technicalities:
– I didn’t write dialogues for this film. I just told the actors what the general idea of the scene is, and they were free to improvise.
– While adding subtitles I used 3 or 4 different styles and/or fonts. To make it more messy. For your viewing (dis)pleasure.
(you’re welcome)
– The video quality is crap.
– Budget was 0 PLN.
– The pub where we shot the film is the same place where we made LOKO. Guess who the DJ is…

Man, the guy number 2 is awesome. My mornings look a lot like his ;) I like his ringtone. The poetry part is great. I like how it returns later as a motif. I'm always conscious whether I say I think or I feel 😀 and yeah deep stuff. The action part in the end was welcome. But the whole 20 plus minutes just flew by. The girl winning the fight at the end is a nice touch. This is definitely one of the better movies from 2002 👌👌 written like a poet. Torun looks fantastic 😀

Guy nr 1 is a poet: notice that there is no water and electricity in his flat. Guy nr 2 is a chav: that part was shot in my flat. Notice the furnace. I remember it was extremely cold during winter as I had no money for wood or coal. Once I woke up and my tea was frozen in the mug :) The poem and the introduction to the poetry book was written by my girlfriend at that time. The action part at the end is OK, but well, not the best fighting scene in the history. The little girl REALLY kicked Diamond in the balls, he said he couldn't walk for a week. Toruń - come and see yourself.

Jacek Pacek. He was the owner of the pub where we used to meet and make those films. The pub's name was Lokomotywa - hence LOKO. Unfortunately, he died some time ago. RIP.

A film with no commercial appeal whatsoever, and that's certainly where all its strength and creativity lie. A kind of deconstruction of nostalgic VHS recordings of family weekends, in which everything seemed wonderful. But 'Polish Golden Youth' comes as a punch to the gut, revealing a reality that sounds tedious and aggressive, but which contains in its essence the purest poetry.

I really liked your comment - it made me think differently about the film. Thank you for that.
