“What I’m excited about with OFZ is that I can see the potential it can have for filmmakers globally. Bringing like minds together along with people who enjoy watching films (which is most people on the planet). A place that gives creators an honest, open platform to showcase their work to the world, in all genres of all styles. A very diverse platform.
What makes it different is the fact that it is “OPEN” to “EVERYONE”.
What I’m hoping for in the future of OFZ is that it will be shared with potential producers, studios, and directors. For me, it’s about getting one of my screenplays read by a producer/studio looking for original stories, and green lit to be made into a film that could make it on the big screen one day.
I think OFZ matters in today’s world, because “Hollywood” is over saturated with remakes after remakes. It seems like there are no new ideas coming from there. I’ve been told because it all comes down to what makes them money. It’s a sure thing. It’s the wagon they all seem to be jumping on. Like the Superhero Bandwagon. That has been going on for over 20 + years. I for one am burnt out from them and horror flix. That just seems to be all everyone wants now, or it’s the only choice they are getting out of Hollywood. I say let’s give them more choices even if it’s low budget to zero budget films. Let’s show those studios that there is more out there than just what Hollywood is dishing out these days.
Why do I believe this platform can and should inspire you? Because anything can happen in the blink of an eye. A producer could be on OFZ and come across your short film or decide to read your original script and like it so much that he wants his studio to make it. That can actually happen and has happened. So don’t give up even if you are in your own second act in life. Keep going. Reinvent yourself. You’re never too old to do a rewrite on your own life’s script.”

“Open Film Zone has been an exciting and refreshing platform for me as a creator. What I find most valuable is the sense of community it builds among filmmakers and creatives from different backgrounds. I’ve been able to share some of my work on the platform, connect with new friends, and build meaningful professional relationships.
What makes OFZ stand out from other platforms is that it doesn’t just feel like a festival space, but more like a growing creative ecosystem. There’s genuine interaction, support, and knowledge-sharing, which is rare to find in many online creative platforms today.
Personally, I’ve learned new things from other creators here, and at the same time, I’ve been able to share my own knowledge and experiences. That two-way learning is what makes Open Film Zone special for me.
I believe Open Film Zone matters today because independent creators need spaces that are open, collaborative, and community-driven — not just competitive. I’m excited to see how the platform grows and becomes a global hub for filmmakers and storytellers in the future.”

“The Zone is a really cool place where you can upload your films, even the dumbest ones, and everybody is happy about it. There’s voting, monthly thematic showcases, and you can liaise with like-minded people from around the globe. What starts as a shared interest community has a great potential to evolve into a circle of friends. It’s different from other fests, coz you don’t need jury’s approval to show your work, you just show it without an impending doom of rejection. And if you feel that your films do not fit into any of the category present in the OFZ, don’t worry, Nikolas will create one to suit your needs. Because the Zone is for you – not the other way round.”

“I love the initiative that is OFZ. It is very valuable for filmmakers starting out, as moral support and feedback matter a lot. I am so far a bit confused about how to use the site, still haven’t managed to vote, but maybe I will figure it out some day xD (you don’t have to include that if you don’t want).
Obviously it differs from the other festivals by having free and constant access, without deadlines and other constraints to submit material. I appreciate platforms with a democratic approach, and enjoyed talking to Nikolas, as he is very curious and interested in everyone’s work.”
