The Creature

An ancient Artifact is stolen from a museum at night. A gloved hand smashes the glass cabinet in which it is displayed, and vanishes into the night chased by the wailing alarm.

A boy sits in his room at his laptop. He’s scrolling through photos of several girls from Tinder. He focuses mainly on close-ups of the girls’ faces, especially zooming in on photos showing exposed necks. Finally, he stops for a moment on one photo and writes a message. He stares at her photo for a moment that shows a slightly blurred shape on her neck. After a few seconds, a notification sounds about an incoming message. He opens his inbox and reads the message. Then he closes his laptop.
The girl from the Tinder photo is standing in the street, looking slightly impatient. She’s shuffling her feet and pacing nervously. Finally, she takes a mirror out of her purse and starts reapplying her lipstick. As she does so, the boy appears. Seeing him, the girl puts the mirror in her purse. The boy approaches her. They embrace in greeting, then begin walking down the street.
They stroll along the Vistula boulevard. The girl is clearly animated, gesturing and uttering a torrent of words. The boy walks beside her, glancing at her every now and then and smiling.
They are both sitting near the Copernicus Monument. Same thing. The girl is talking, the boy is listening. Finally, the boy shyly touches her hand with his. The boy’s expression is no longer so optimistic, but he still tries to smile.
They walk down the street, holding hands. The girl is talking. The boy is silent. He is stone-faced.
They stand in a gateway next to one of the streets. The girl is still talking, the boy leans over her and covers her mouth with a kiss.
They walk through the park. They hold hands. The girl is talking. The boy kisses her. She pushes him away and steps back to continue talking. The boy looks irritated. While the girl is chatting, the boy unexpectedly removes her scarf and stares at the back of her neck.

The boy is sitting on the couch, while the girl is putting on her makeup and pouting in the mirror.
The TV is on in the background. The narrator speaks in a scholarly tone. On the screen there is a film illustrating his words. Someone is looking up at the sky at birds, standing on the roof of a building looking down, and jumping with their arms spread out.
The boy turns off the TV with the remote. The girl begins a monologue, cutting off the boy’s words. She wants him to take her out to town, but she doesn’t know where, and she throws suggestions like the cinema, a pizzeria, a shopping mall, etc. She then shoots down each of her ideas, blaming the boy for it. For example, she says she wants to go to the cinema, but after a moment, she says the boy is tired and would only make her feel bad, if he fell asleep during the movie and started snoring. She continues her monologue in a way that makes it impossible to interrupt the conversation.
The boy, already irritated, sends a text message, which doesn’t escape the girl’s attention, who accuses him of writing to some floozy. The boy leaves the room, saying he’s going to some floozy.

Outside, he tells his friend that she’s the one they’re looking for, yes, she’s the one.
The two then walk down the street and talk about upcoming events. They dream of the power and riches they’ll receive after summoning the Creature, once they become its servants. They’re promised their dreams will come true, but it’s hard for them to imagine it in practice. So they repeat the typical notions of money, palaces, girls, and power.

A grimy kid squats in an alley. He stands out clearly from the background. He’s dressed in garish, brightly colored clothes. He moves with difficulty. He stretches his arms and legs, and cracks can be heard in his joints. He whispers something in an unknown, ominous language.
The kid approaches the boys, follows them for a moment, as if undecided, before finally overtaking them and blocking their path. He has a very serious expression, large, wide eyes, and a watchful gaze. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out an apple. He holds out his hand to one of them, who instinctively takes the apple and puts it in his pants pocket. He takes out a coin and tosses it toward the boy, who withdraws his hand, the coin lands on the sidewalk.
The kid stands motionless, staring at the backs of the walking boys. When they turn around the corner, the kid raises his hands and dematerializes, his body disappearing, and his now empty clothes fall to the sidewalk.

The boys continue walking, and talking about how they imagine a new world under the rule of the Creature they intend to summon. Unsure of what this will look like, they spin half-joking fantasies about the end of the world and a new beginning, with themselves as omnipotent apostles. Then they agree to go to the apartment where the Artifact (a transmitter between the Creature and whoever puts it on their head) is located to reconnect with its power and seek answers to their questions.

The girl leaves the apartment and walks straight from the street to the gate, where a drug dealer stands. He greets her with a nod and hands her a bag of white powder. The girl gives him money. The dealer warns her that the drug is new and has a delayed effect.
The girl nods, pours powder onto the back of her hand, inhales it, and sighs deeply. She steps out of the gate and onto the street, where two masked men in balaclavas suddenly jump at her, throw some powder in her face, and then force her into a parked car.

The boys enter the room where the Artifact lies on a table on a stand. They sit down in chairs at the table. One of them lifts the Artifact and places it on his head. The lights in the room dim, and long shadows form on the wall. The boy’s eyes glaze over, and he straightens abruptly in his chair.

The sequence of connecting to another dimension via the Artifact involves watching an animated representation of events and hearing a voice speaking in an unknown language, describing what is happening in each scene (these are incomprehensible sounds, illustrating only what is visible, to create an atmosphere of eeriness).

– The Creature looks down majestically against the sky. The camera zooms out, revealing many kneeling people around it, bowing to it.
– The Creature walks among the people, petting their heads, at which point halos grow around them. Everyone smiles and extends their hands to it.
– The Bride approaches the Creature. They join hands and gaze into each other’s eyes. Her distinguishing feature is a birthmark on the back of her neck (the same one the girl has at the beginning of the film).
– The ceremony is interrupted by lightning in the suddenly darkened sky. A rain of fire begins to fall, setting everything ablaze: the people, the surroundings.
– The Bride is seen burning, and the Creature’s roar of despair is heard.
– Dark figures descend to the ground, surrounding the Creature. (They are dressed in the same attire as the participants in the summoning ritual will appear at the end of the film).
– They begin to fight. During the clash the Artifact hanging at the Creature’s waist falls to the ground.
– The characters defeat the Creature and lock it in a cave. They draw a symbol (the one from the bride’s neck) on the stone blocking the entrance.

The boy throws off the Artifact and breathes heavily, sweat streaming down his face. He says that what he saw, he saw before.

The summoning ritual begins. We see hooded figures, candles, semi-darkness, some elaborate symbols on the walls, and an altar. The entire time, a mantra can be heard in the unknown language. The master of ceremonies stands above the altar and utters successive sentences, which the assembled people repeat (in the language from the animated sequence and the language spoken by the child on the street). As the ritual progresses, the tension mounts. The candles burn out rapidly, the shadows on the walls shift shapes constantly, cracks appear on the walls, and dust falls from the ceiling.
In the place where the ritual is taking place, we see the girl – drugged, with her pupils dilated and ceremonially dressed in long, hooded robes.
The girl doesn’t react adequately to what’s happening and observes the proceedings, passively submitting to the ministrations. Finally, two hooded figures take the girl by the arms and lead her to the altar, placing the Artifact on her head to summon the Creature. As soon as the Artifact is on the girl’s head, it begins to emit light, flooding her face. The ground begins to tremble, the gathered people stagger, some fall to their knees, sobbing. There’s a loud crash, the ceiling cracks, and…
Ending 1 (serious in a horror movie style) …the Creature appears, everyone falls to their knees, candles burn upwards, the saliva of one of the gathered people recoils into his mouth, and points of light swirl around the Creature like fireflies. Outside, the trees are burning, the sky is covered with black clouds, among which the symbol of the Creature flashes. Lightning begins to strike. Birds fall to the ground. The being sends fireflies to each of the gathered people, who rise from their knees. Their faces are transformed: pale, black pupils, and streaks of blood drip from their eyes. The Creature crouches slightly and spreads its arms out to the sides, letting out a terrifying roar as it sees the attire of its enemies. In the sky, the moon splits in half and shatters into several pieces. The girl rises from the altar, takes the Creature’s hands, and the two begin to spin together slowly rising up in the air. The girl’s face changes into the Bride’s face. Halos appear on the heads of the ritual participants.

Ending 2 (slapstick a la Monty Python) During the ritual, the ceremony master is carrying the Artifact to the altar. The boy who took the apple from the kid says that when he gets nervous, he gets hungry. He takes the apple from his pocket, but it falls from his numb hands and rolls across the floor. It falls under the feet of the man carrying the artifact, who trips over it, his feet get tangled, he drops the artifact, which shatters on the floor, the guy runs headlong into the altar, knocks it over, one of the candles falls onto the curtain, setting it on fire, smoke, fire, chaos, running, and screams. One of the ritual participants, mad with despair, grabs a knife and starts running towards the girl on the altar, intending to kill her. As he runs, he steps on a rake, which hits him in the forehead, and the guy falls unconscious to the ground.

Ending 3 (sit-com, humorous) (…) the camera focuses on the altar, the ceremony master with the artifact approaches it (earlier, a scene in the background of a guy biting an apple, which doesn’t fall from his hand), he places the artifact on the girl’s head, and it begins to emit light. And suddenly, the girl wakes up – the delayed-action drug is taking effect. The mist clears from her eyes and her pupils sharpen. She rises from the altar and looks around. The Creature, summoned moments before her awakening, arrives, and the girl begins her monologue. She speaks quickly, as if on heavy speed, not allowing anyone to interrupt. She criticizes everything from A to Z, from the mismatched socks of one of the ritual participants, through the acrid candle smoke, to the Creature’s crooked horns. The Creature tries to speak, but the girl brusquely shushes it and continues her monologue. Finally, resigned, it dematerializes. The girl mocks the shoddy execution of this apocalypse. One of the ritual participants remarks to the other that she probably wasn’t the one they were looking for.

Wow. Interesting simple setup with young people that turns biblical in scale. I like that you have many ending options. Yes, I'd like to see this for sure!

Thanks, Nikolas. This is the treatment of a short horror film I wrote for my film group. We are at the stage of looking for the people who want want to be a part of it and contribute the best they can. I'll be posting how it's going coz I myself am intrigued about how it started, how it was developing in my head, and how it's going to finally look like.

Basically, it's supposed to be a mixture of horror, absurd, and comedy.

Good mix of genres. Always great to have a holistic film that has many corner stones to build from. It makes the work more than a movie, it becomes a "film". I'll be following the journey and want to contribute the best I can👍
