THE SOLDIER WHO BECAME A SAINT — THE EXTRAORDINARY TRANSFORMATION OF IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA
A soldier entered the battlefield determined to defend his honor.
A cannonball changed everything.
This is the extraordinary transformation of **Ignatius of Loyola**—from a young Basque soldier consumed by ambition, glory, and the ideals of knighthood into a man whose life became devoted to God, discernment, prayer, and service.
After being shattered by a cannonball at the Battle of Pamplona in 1521, Ignatius faced a long and painful recovery at Loyola. What began as physical suffering became the beginning of a profound spiritual transformation.
His journey would take him through intense prayer and penance at Manresa, the illumination beside the Cardoner River, pilgrimage to Jerusalem, years of study, interrogation by the Inquisition, and eventually Paris—where he formed friendships with men who would help change the history of Christianity.
In 1534, Ignatius and his companions made their first vows at Montmartre. Six years later, the Society of Jesus—the Jesuits—received formal approval.
The ambitious soldier who once dreamed of earthly glory had become a spiritual leader whose influence would reach far beyond anything he could have imagined.
He died in Rome on July 31, 1556.
But his story was only beginning.
This is the story of **Saint Ignatius of Loyola**—a story of ambition, suffering, doubt, surrender, discernment, and transformation.
*Watch until the end to discover how one wounded soldier became one of the most influential saints in Christian history.*
