It Had No Teeth… Yet It Could Crush Bones

It had no teeth.

And yet, more than 360 million years ago, Dunkleosteus terrelli ruled the ancient seas with one of the most terrifying jaws of the Devonian.

Its head was protected by massive bony armor, while razor-edged bone plates inside its mouth could slice through prey with incredible force. This wasn’t a dinosaur, a shark, or a reptile.

It was an armored fish.

In this BeaStory documentary, we travel back to the Late Devonian to discover how Dunkleosteus hunted, what made its jaw so powerful, the predators and rivals that shared its ancient seas, and what happened when the Late Devonian extinction brought its reign to an end.

From a mysterious silhouette in the ancient ocean to the final disappearance of its lineage, this is the story of one of the most extraordinary predators ever to swim the Earth.

What would it have been like to encounter Dunkleosteus in its own ocean?

Watch until the end.
