Behind Closed Doors is a poignant short drama that exposes the hidden reality of male victims of domestic abuse.The film opens in the morning with James, an exhausted but composed husband, facing an immediate barrage of verbal insults from his irritable wife, Lisa, who berates him over minor household tasks. The toxicity spills into his professional life later that day when Lisa intentionally disrupts a crucial Zoom work meeting, publicly humiliating him and destroying his paperwork.
Isolated and ashamed, the true extent of the abuse is revealed at night when James stands before a bathroom mirror, exposing physical bruises hidden beneath his clothes. Overwhelmed by a message of concern from his mother, he realizes he can no longer pretend it was just a “bad day.”
In the quiet hours of the night, while Lisa is scrolling through Tiktok, James finds the courage to pack a suitcase and leave a desperate voicemail seeking help.
